I have been on the gleevec for one year now. my tumor was removed in September
The gleevec makes me real tired and sick to my stomach when i take it, but Its a good drug. I am back to working two jobs and playing in a band. The surgery and the drug is giving me my life back. What side effects do you have?

Hi my son had a 7 cm gist removed last year he is only 25 years old. The shock of it all at the time was undescribable. However a year later he is back to playing football and living life to the full. Keeping a positive attitude is the one thing that has kept us all going in the face of adversity. Think positive. Rose

hi my name is Caren i live in South Africa, my brother was diagnosed with gist +- 5yrs ago he has had in total 12 tumours removed the size of footballs, they have just taken over his body there is nothing the docs can do for him, it was to late for Gleevec, he had to have a blood transfusion last week as one of the tumours was bleeding and was bleeding internally, he has now grabbed life with both hands and decided to live it to the fullest eating what he wants and keeping himself busy, i pray for all of those out there with this dreaded disease, may you be pain free and live everyday as if it were your last.

i had a gist tumour that was 12cm. i had a laparotomy and removed it. it is a very big and painful operation. was in icu for 6 days. its been two months now and i feel much better however my operation still pains.

My name is Claire. My husband was diagnosed with GIST 2 years ago. He had 40lbs of tumors removed. With some still remaining. He had another surgery 1 year later and on Dec. 13, 2009 he lost his fight. He was 49. I beg of everyone who has GIST to stay on top of it and pray. God Bless you all.

I'm scared for my fiance, he's 45 yrs. old and we found out he has a gist located in the duodenum area its about 2-3cm. the doctor has recommended doing the whipple surgery. I'm scared about all the factors involved. He doesn't want to do chemo. and the drugs I've seen listed don't even sound promising. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions? The doctor says it needs to be done within at least 3-4 wks.

hi georgette my mom is 84 she has a gist 7.7 in size they say it has grown since 4-5 weeks she is in the hospital in the cancer ward im scared so much for her they are not goin to take it out and its too late for gleevec how are you doing and feeling yourself?

God Bless anyone with a GIST. My father had one the size of a football. I have never felt so much pain for anyone.
