The lesser known of Aomori Prefecture's major summer festivals, Goshogawara's Tachineputa Matsuri is perhaps the most vibrantly authentic. Departing from the street-wide displays of Aomori's Nebuta and the dualistic decorated fans of Hirosaki's Neputa, the Tachineputa is most famous for its towering floats that dwarf nearby buildings at some 22m tall. Nearly forgotten after numerous fires in the early 20th century, the festival was revived in 1998 after old photos of it were discovered five years earlier.
