A distant, laidback suburb northwest of Taipei, Danshui is a popular weekend destination for citizens of the capital. Although best known locally for its riverfront and tasty street food, the town also maintains a great deal of architectural and cultural heritage dating from the late Qing Dynasty and colonial era.
