Westwood

Name: Westwood
Manufactured by: Bad Boyz Toyz
MSRP: $1700
Date: ~1996-1999
Rarity: *****

Ever since I saw the prototypes, I have wanted one; and years later having a roommate in college that had one just rubbed it in the face. When I held the prototype, I was told "you have never seen a cocker like this before and it will change the face of cockers forever". They were right, at over 1700 for a base model new it was one of the first to use CNC technology, and nearly every one was hand built by Danny Love of Bad Boyz Toyz (now called Shocktech), one of the true gods of custom cockers. Although the gun bears his name, the original creator of the milling, Dan Westwood, Never received the attention or praise. At the time, it was the ultimate in cockers, and still holds its place as one of the most expensive guns ever made and is regarded by many as one of the ultimate cockers.

I have attempted off and on over the years to finally get my hands on one, but until recently my budget never met up with availability. Finally, with a decent job I managed to scrounge up a beauty in Canada with all original parts. Sadly, the seller ended up wanting to play games and so that one disappeared, never arriving at the third party. Needless to say I was not happy having a good chunk of cash tied up for nothing at a third party. As fortune has it, the day after I made the decision to call the whole thing off and get my money back, this one was offered to me. As you can imagine I jumped at it.

As far as Westwood’s go, this one is pretty mundane. That is to say, it is one of the finest pieces I own and shows incredible detail and craftsmanship. As can only be expected, the anno is deep and rich, with the smooth type of fade you seldom see anymore. Unlike the most lavish Westwood’s, this one is a simple fade without any splash. Interestingly, over the years I have noticed that probably at least 75% of the Westwood’s I have seen are a blue fade of some sort. These normally came with the venerable Hogue grips which were popular in the 90's, but I swapped them out for a pair of blue wood grips. I have to admit, I have a fondness for wood grips. The bolt and the lp chamber are both AKA and did not come stock. The beavertail that came with it was heavily bent, and I will replace it at some point, but it detracted from the pictures. I am the second owner on it I believe, the original owner purchased it in '99 though the serial indicates its probably a '98 body.
