In the early and mid 90's WGP offered a conversion kit to convert low and mid level nelson pumps into autocockers (for those that might not now, a normal cocker is based off a Sheriden design). Called the Autotraccer (there was also a chameleon kit on the market), these kits were never popular, being costly and limited in options. They also posses a few inherent design issue, such as the pumps it was used to convert were usually designed for two pump arms instead of one putting a lot of pressure on the ram. If care wasn't taken to set it up properly, the force often bent the ram.
The kit itself is timed totally off the 3-way, there is no sear lug to adjust. The base gun for this one was a hammer by Kingman, a popular choice due to the availability of spyder barrels. The kit came stock with the normal WGP components of the day. As you can see in the old pics from when i got it, the ram had been bent badly, likely in this case in shipping. what can't be seen is the shaft was also bent probably from over tightening the cocking screw.
Considering the state it was in, I had two choices, keep it as stock as possible and use it as a shelf piece for the most part or have some fun with it and make it a more common player. After a couple of cycles I saw the potential even with a bent ram.
While I was replacing the ram, I also tossed on an adjustable reg to make tuning easier. It came with a slip fit timing rod, something I have never liked so I added a threaded minicocker rod (not flattened unfortunately). The 3-way is in ok condition so I kept it for now and added a trigger shoe, stainless screws, and a longe rside screw to prevent bending the ram. I had planned to leave the old WGP frame on it, but I am liking it enough I am planning to make this a regular in my gear bag so am now looking at a finding a 45 that will fit it. it needs to be a narrow top old style frame to work, so finding one won't be easy; I will probably end up having some milling done. The ASA has been replaced with a stainless ASA. A stainless spyder scepter back will round out the finished gun for now so that I can use my scepter kit.
Even with the long throw 3-way and round timing rod, its very comparable to other mid to high end cockers. Although not as nice a pull as my favorites currently, I have no doubt with a little work I can make it perform as well as my evolutions or Shocktechs. The single tube body makes for a lot of confusion with people thinking anything from autococking mag to Palmers. I have added photos of the internals, since I discovere many are completly unfamilier with nelson based guns. For the time being I will not do any internal replacement, on Nelsons its a dubious effect.
