Trinidad Cuba is a very picturesque old Spanish colonial town founded in 1514 in the province of Sancti Spíritus. Trinidad sits on a hillside overlooking the Caribbean Sea in central Cuba about 400kms south east of Havana. Historic Trinidad is famous for its lovely, cobblestone streets, pastel colored houses with elaborate wrought-iron grills, as well as majestic mansions and plazas. The city can be toured in a few hours, by foot or by horse-drawn carriage. Trinidad was declared a UNESCO World Heritage sites in 1988. The main driver of the local economy is tourism and tobacco processing although the region’s roots are in sugar plantations and sugar mills.
