PADDLE FOR FAME, Discovery Bay Ca.

Discovery Bay’s motto "Live Where You Play" is on display each summer when entire community gets together to do what they do best, play in the water. Every June several thousand locals jump into their paddle boats, kayaks, canoes, SUPs, rafts and every imaginable water floatation device for the annual Paddle for Fame event where the community tries to break their previous record and a win spot in the Guinness Book of World records for the largest people powered gathering of water vessels. While the goal is to make or break the World’s Record the main prize is just a fun filled day for all. On the lawn at the Discovery Bay Marina overlooking the event is an array of vendors and local businesses with booths displaying their wares and serving food / drinks while the crowd rocks out to the sounds of a local band. Meanwhile on the water as the afternoon progresses more and more paddle boaters and other floating devices arrive in time for the fly over and aerial photo for the World record count. This year out of 719 possible vessels on the water and about 2,000 people in attendance - 621 paddlers were connected at the 3:00 PM fly over, beating last year's record of 492.
