Our voyage thru the Inside Passage began in Sitka Alaska where we boarded the National Geographic Sea Bird a 152 foot expedition ship. We first headed north to Glacier Bay before turning south winding our way through thousands of islands in the land of mist shrouded fjords, coastal temperate rainforests and tidewater glaciers. Our ship's relative small size enabled us to travel to places few get to see. Each day we climbed into zodiacs and kayaks to make land for natural history or photography hikes or to maneuver even closer to the wildlife that seemed to surround us. Our trip was a special photography oriented expedition with professional photography coaching designed to put us in the right places at the right times. The naturalist staff were very experienced and knowledgeable professionals giving us a classroom on the sea. We were treated to salmon runs, a frenzy of humpback whales bubble net feeding, 7 brown bears feasting on a whale carcass, killer whales, bald eagles, steller sea lions, hundreds of pacific white sided dolphins and harbor porpoises to name a few of the creatures we found. This 1300+ mile journey which ended in Seattle will be one we remember for many years to come.
