Laughing Gulls began the 'dash and grab' technique to get pieces of fish.



Sometimes they would circle the osprey waiting for an opening.
But the biggest surprise for the osprey, and me, was yet to come.




Out of nowhere a pelican swooped in. It tried to grab the fish as the osprey turned away.



The osprey took off, holding the fish with both feet.



The pelican followed.



By this time the osprey held the fish with only one foot.




The poor osprey dropped the fish and the pelican landed to pick up its prize.

After all the effort to swim to shore with the fish the osprey was only able to eat the head portion before losing its meal to the pelican.
