Meet Annie! I adopted her from the St. Louis Senior Dog Project. She is somewhere between 8 and 10 years old, and a wonderful sweet dog!

Her unfortunate backstory is that her owners had two dogs, got evicted from their home, and just left the dogs there. WTF??!!! Are you too fucking lazy to at least take the dogs to a shelter?!! Obviously so. I imagine the neighbors reported abandoned dogs and the Franklin County Humane Society picked them up. This is a high kill shelter. Not by design, but there are so many stray/abandoned dogs that they have no choice.

Annie was pretty much a goner...very few people will adopt an old dog. And Annie was extremely laid back/shy/quiet. Not exactly selling herself!

Then along came the St. Louis Senior Dog Project, a rescue specializing in older dogs. I am so thankful they chose Annie to save. She was not what I was looking for, but I happened to see her a couple times at rescue events, and she was just so sweet.

She turned out to be the BEST dog! Not one accident in the house, learned how to be an "inside" dog, and over the past year and a half has absolutely bloomed. At first she had no idea what to do in my house, and was afraid of toys. She also didn't know how to jump up on a bed, and when I let her outside, I had to coax her back in...since she had been an outside dog, she didn't think she was allowed to come in I guess.

She now plays with toys like crazy, has learned how to sit, shake, lay down, roll over, and give a kiss. When I first met her, she wagged her tail very slowly, like she enjoyed the attention but was still unsure. You should see that tail now! Sometimes it's going in circles :)

I am now hooked on "senior" dogs. I feel so lucky to have found Annie, and I imagine she is astounded with her new life compared to before.
