This is the extremely rarely blooming amorphophallus titanum, also called Titan Arum, or commonly "corpse flower." These particular pictures were taken at Quail Botanical Gardens, in Encinitas, California, on October 7, 2004. At this time, the flower was already closing up again, after it had opened about a day and a half earlier.
