The Blue Ridge Parkway is closed in winter for obvious reasons, but it makes for some great hiking opportunities. Many people parked on the on/off ramp from Hwy 215, but pull on up if you can. There's about a hundred yard section for parking before the gates. The first folks we encountered were making a snow man.
