Phil, I thought about counter framing first, but wanted to include the tree at the bottom for scale inconguity. I wanted to take the shots in both ways, but the bird flew away before I could. Now that I look at it, the sky is enough.
Try counter framing this image, Shirley, to increase tension. Instead of framing a vertical picture in a predictable vertical frame, frame it in a horizontal frame. It is always best to do this in the camera, but in this case, cropping the picture as a horizontal, working with the bird, the top of the tree, and the clouds, would help. Be sure to place the bird off center. See how you like it. Counter framing always adds a touch of tension to an image. Try it.
