Koyasan 高野山

Koyasan (高野山, Mount Koya) is the center of Shingon Buddhism, an important Buddhist sect which was introduced to Japan in 805 by Kobo Daishi (aka Kukai), one of Japan's most significant religious figures. At an elevation of about 900 m (or 3000 ft), its large temple complex is located in Wakayama Prefecture of Japan, to the south of Osaka.
