Constructed during the Roman Imperial period outside the sacred boundary walls of Apollo's sanctuary, this large paved open square of Roman Agora was originally bordered on three sides by grand columned porticos and a bustling row of shops. Here, arriving pilgrims and travelers from across the Mediterranean would gather to rest, socialize, and purchase votive offerings—such as small bronze tripods and terracotta figurines—before embarking up the Sacred Way to consult the legendary Oracle.
