In 2013, the original 1957 building of the Danish Resistance Museum (Frihedsmuseet) was lost to arson, though its historic collection was thankfully rescued. Inside that lost hall, an exposed timber roof truss and iconic Artichoke pendant lights framed a vibrant stained-glass window by Sven Havsteen-Mikkelsen. Positioned front and center was a Danish 20mm Madsen automatic cannon—a weapon used by border guards during the 1940 Nazi invasion — serving as a powerful symbol of national resolve and active resistance throughout Denmark's wartime occupation.
