Konrad Adenauer Monument

view map

The Konrad Adenauer Monument at Bundeskanzlerplatz in Bonn is a 2-meter tall bronze head sculpture created by Hubertus von Pilgrim in 1981 to honors West Germany’s first Federal Chancellor. The front side is a realistic portrait of Adenauer. The reverse sides are sculpted with pictograms and key dates detailing landmarks of his life. These reliefs include the Cologne Cathedral (referencing his time as Mayor of Cologne), a Prussian eagle, the Reims Cathedral (signifying Franco-German reconciliation), and the mythical Europe on a bull.
