Unlike traditional needle-like minarets, the minaret at Xi'an's Great Mosque takes the shape of a classical three-tiered Chinese octagonal pagoda built during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Known as the Shengxin Tower ("Visiting the Heart Pavilion"), it is an example of the cultural exchanges along the Silk Road.
