The Yongning Tower (永寧樓) sits atop the Yongning Gate (永寧門, South Gate), which is the grandest and best-preserved entrance to Xi'an's ancient Ming Dynasty City Wall. Built in 1370 AD during the Ming dynasty, it formed the main ceremonial gateway into the imperial city and was the principal entrance for visiting officials and dignitaries.
