The Westerkerk (Western Church) was designed by architect Hendrick de Keyser and completed by his son Pieter. It opened for its first service in 1631 as the largest church in the Netherlands purpose-built for Protestants. Towering at 85 meters (278 feet), its bell tower is the tallest in Amsterdam. It features a massive hour-striking bell weighing over 7,000 kg and is famously topped with the bright blue Imperial Crown of Austria, a historic symbol of imperial privilege granted by Emperor Maximilian I.
