The Monument of Remembrance (nicknamed Gėlle Fra, or "Golden Lady") is a war memorial located on Place de la Constitution in the Ville Haute quarter of Luxembourg City. Originally built in 1923 to honor those volunteered to fight alongside the Allied Powers in WWI. It has expanded to honor those who fell during WWII, the Korean War, the Spanish Civil War and other UN missions. The monument features a 21-meter-tall granite obelisk. At the peak stands a gilded bronze statue of Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, holding out a laurel wreath. At the base are two un-gilded bronze statues: one soldier lying dead in service, and another sitting and mourning his fallen compatriot.
