The Blue Mesa area is one of the most visually striking sections of the park with steeply eroded badlands. The landscape is defined by the Blue Mesa Member of the Chinle Formation, which features thick layers of bentonite clay in vibrant shades of blue, purple, and lavender. The Blue Mesa Trail provides visitors a close look at these formation.
