The Ponte di Castelvecchio, also known as the Scaliger Bridge, is a fortified brick bridge over the Adige River. featuring distinctive M-shaped merlons and three spans of varying lengths. Built in the 14th century, it served as a vital escape route from the adjacent Castelvecchio fortress, allowing the ruling Scaliger family to flee safely toward the north if under siege. Although it was tragically destroyed by retreating German troops in 1945, it was faithfully reconstructed using original materials to preserve one of Verona’s most iconic medieval panoramas.
