This slide from the "old" commander's briefing shows, via a yellow line, the sector assigned to Cold Bay AFS, including the detachments extending out into the Aleutian Islands. At the time I created the new briefing, some changes to the slide were necessary due to those detachments having been closed. By 1970, staffing had been increased and equipment added at Cold Bay. Responsibilities had been centralized, dictating the need for those expansions. As it turned out, the future would bring even greater changes. As an aside, and without getting political, a former Governor of Alaska was once credited with saying that she could see the Soviet Union from her back porch. Many scoffed. I did not.
