Whale Spray

Bering Sea, AK

While the two of us waited, Bryant and I sat on the dune and watched a whale (or whales) repeatedly submerging and coming back up to blow a spray. I assume it was feeding. Fortunately, we had binoculars to enhance our view. Even the 100 mm lens on my camera was insufficient to capture more than a tiny image. The photo revealed only a spot that I knew was the snout and some of the whale’s spray. Neither Bryant nor I had seen a whale before, so this experience was “icing on the cake!”

Eventually, the group returned with the news that they had not found the village. However, they did collect a treasure trove of balls and other items from the beach. Then, loaded up with the new and old stuff, our reunited group turned to go back to the other side of the peninsula where we were to meet the plane.
