As an officer, I was fortunate to have a room to myself. Very few of us had that luxury. My closet, with sliding doors, and the door to the hallway were in the east corner. Oars that were in the room when I arrived were never used during my entire tour. That was not the same for the rifle and fishing rod! They were both used frequently. I kept a refrigerator stocked, and sometimes, if I didn't feel like going downstairs to the mess hall, I just ate what I had on hand. Snacks and a popcorn popper resided on top of the refrigerator. My ironing board was used often when I pressed my 1505's (uniform).
