Designed in the classical architecture of Greece and Rome, the Masons designed this temple in honor of George Washington, one of their early members.The Memorial's Grand Hall was inspired by the Parthenon of Athens. It features a massive bronze statue of George Washington in the Masonic regalia he wore at the United States Capitol Cornerstone Laying Ceremony in 1793. Murals depict Washington at Christ Church in Philadelphia and laying the cornerstone of the United States Capitol, both in 1793.
