Once a grand showcase in Colonial times, Woodlawn Plantation dates to around1800, and was owned by President Washington's nephew and Martha Washington's granddaughter. Over 90% of the people that lived at the plantation were slaves. The plantation is located a few miles west of Mount Vernon and overlooks the Potomac River Valley.
