Pecos National Historic Park

Apparently, the decline of Pecos Pueblo was brought about by relentless raids by the Comanche Plains Indians, as well as smallpox epidemics. By the early 1800s, the population of the community had dropped to less than 50 people, and by 1838 the last of the Puebloans left for Jemez Pueblo to the west.
