Sunni Islam is the religion of 15% of Singapore’s population...mostly the Malay minority. This area has been the center of Malay/Muslim life since the 1800s. Sultan Hussain – the last ruling sultan of what became Singapore -- built this mosque next to his palace. This particular incarnation of the mosque was completed in 1928.
