Erected in 1735. In 1901 the Ladies Memorial Association developed the church into a Memorial Chapel and Confederate shrine in memory of the 30,000 Confederates buried in the adjacent cemetery.
Regrettably they don't allow interior photography...the Tiffany stained glass windows are memorable. Memorial services were held here for George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. Today, memorial services are held here every year on 9 June to honor the "Old Men and Young Boys" who distinguished themselves in a battle with against an overwhelming force of Federal troops on 9 June 1864.
