Yellowstone National Park: Sapphire Pool

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

An exceptionally beautiful thermal spring with a temperature of about 201°F. After the 1959 earthquake, major eruptions occurred at 2 hour intervals and reached 150 feet. The force of the eruptions caused the crater to double in size and destroyed the biscuit-like formations around its edge. By 1968 it returned to its spring-like nature.
