Dec 8: Serious SP

Staring right into the lens. Partly inspired by a TV documentary about New York artist Chuck Close, partly by my wanting to experiment with the lights.

PS John thinks you look like Dennis Quaid. I know he isn't the only one.

Wonderful SP! Plan on coming up to our house after going to the Chuck Close exhibit in SF!

Very nice. I like the way you did the highlight on the right of your face, yet your eye is still in shadow. Good SP.

I saw Close when his work was at the KMA for 5 months. There is a tremendous amout of labor that goes into putting his work together. It is an interesting process and unique materials and textures that he works with. However I was a little disapointed when I learn that many/most of his pieces are created using a "staff". Something I am on the fence about, I tend to like the lone artist and his art, just a person creating their art, one vision and one set of hands making it. But I do understand that when your work or visions crosses so many disciplines that sometimes you have to employ others to assist. That said I don't develop my film or print my digitals I take them to a developer, but I wouldn't really call my snapshots art either. Another nice B&W I like up close in your face portraits like this.
