Mar 15: Death of a Sportsman

The Ilford Sportsman was never a great camera. Built in Germany by Dacora, it was an attempt to get into the Retinette / Silette market. With a 4 speed Prontor shutter and a three element lens it was basic but usable. Various models were produced over the years, but by the time this largely plastic 'Sportsman 300' version arrived it was already old fashioned. The Olympus Trip 35 with its 4 element D.Zuiko lens and automatic exposure was showing the way and the days of German mass market cameras was all but over. This one, a 99p eB*y bargain, has donated it's shutter to another project...

I see your motto is "Waste Not, Want Not".
Is there any hope for those of us who never throw anything away ?

So David Bailey is to blame?! I'm not sure I enjoy pics of damaged cameras, though. It makes me queezy!
