Inked Large

View the original only if you have the bandwidth. It's over 3 MB. However, if you don't view the original, you miss the point of the picture's inclusion here.

This is a compressed version of the full-resolution inked picture. I used several layers with various settings of smart blur in order to create this ink effect. Because of the gradient in intensity, the dome and lady were processed separately from the rest of the building. The sidewalk was processed separately still. The process was far more involved than using smartblur, mostly involving levels adjustments, gaussian blur, etc., in order to make the smart blur work well in line mode. Without the gaussian blur applied before the smartblur, there was far too much noise rendered as part of the drawing. An example of this can be seen in the trees, which I mostly ignored in terms of overabundance of lines. Since they're not the primary focus, and since they are in deep shade, I figured this was appropriate. In a way, extra lines serves the same purpose as selective focus here.
