David was my brother and served in the 377th. We lost him on January 11,2011 to pancreatic and liver cancer. We were not aware that he was wounded while in Viet Nam and would like any information that you could give us about him.

My father was a dog trainer for the 377th. His name is Robert F. Reed - he was stationed a few places like, Lackland, Bergstrom, and also in Fairbanks, Alaska. I only remember the names of two of the dogs he trained - Duke and Fritz. He was enlisted from 58 to 62ish. I am unsure of exact information. I do have access to his pictures. He has pics of him with the dogs and then pics of himself with the graves later on. He holds this part of his life extremely close to his heart - if anyone has heard of him, knew him or has a pic with him in it please reply. I need to make some connections on his behalf. Greg "bb" Bennett I'm am so very grateful to my Brother and Sister K9 handlers serving in the Armed Forces and especially our Vietnam K9 Handlers od all services. My buddy John Taft,a USMC sentry dog handler who stepped on a landmine only a few days from DEROS,recently passed away. I met John at several rallies in support of our POW-MIA's. A few years back we protested when Mobil Oil (NJ) was going to set up drilling operations in Vietnam. We managed to be interviewed on TV news. Our buddy Harry "Sarge" Schaffer led us there with a motorcycle escort. Both "Sarge" and John have passed from Agent Orange. I'm an ERA vet and my dogs were Sabre at the 81SPS at RAF Bentwaters/Woodbrige under MSGT Gary Wilson,TSGT Keth Thornburg and SSG Kim Reed.At Pease AFB,NH I handled Lobo.The USAF put Lobo to sleep as zoom cameras were placed in the WSA and we were told K9 weren't needed. The first night all the new alarms were going off with nothing seen on the CCTV monitors. A Shift Supervisor called the kennels and said,"Get the dogs here fast." I grew up in Hicksville,NY and one of my neighbors was one of the first Nam Army dog handlers who gave his life.May these brave Americans and their K9 buddies rest in peace. Thank you for the wonderful website.I also served 90 days with the State Guard in response to September 11th. Numerous rescue dogs have passed due to the contaminated air. At the 509th SPS we had a dog named Proce who was alleged to be a Nam sentry dog.Prince was put to sleep. I put a sign on his kennel, "R.I.P Prince:He Feared No Man." The poor dogs were donated to the UNH vetenarian college for medical study. They deserved better.Keep the public and politicans informed about Agent Orange and Gulf War Illness. I worked as a VA cop and saw many abuses at the VA hospitals. Keep up the great work with the VDHA.

I am Cheryl Mize, daughter of Dannie Davis. He died a slow and painful death that was unnecessary. Who ever put him and his fellow soldiers in that position failed to inform them of the chemicals involved. Agent Orange must of had a reason to be present. We only saw the tragic effect on Dad's mind and body. He was turned into a helpless victim. In the last days of his life he could not talk rationally or stand. My mother fed and bathed him. I dressed the open sores that would not heal. He died.

I really enjoyed viewing the pictures of guys I never knew and many I did. I am sorry mine isn't included but, maybe someday someone will come across one when I looked better (my best) I handled Bo-49D3 I think his number was, from late 1970 to late 1971. Hope someone reads this. Lotsa luck with this great site.

I was there in 66 and 68 and remember Nemo well. As a member of 3rd Air Rescue Group, I was well acquainted with the 377th, and consider them all as heroes of the first rank, including their superb dogs and handlers. Thank you very much for this wonderful history.

Very interesting. I've read alot about Vietnam and I never heard anything abou the K9 units. I really enjoyed the pictures.
