What a sad fate for such a grand workhorse that's basically extinct. Too bad someone doesn't take it under their wing and restore it for a hands-on children's museum. I have very fond memories of adventures in a retired caboose at a local forest preserve learning center.

So sad, keep paint on the top, grease on the bottom and they would last forever.
Very colorful in its demise.
