Tornado Sunday

Seven tornados riped through the greater Metro area today in the worst severe weather in decades. There have been 5 deaths - so far - confirmed with this storm. As one of the stronger tornados headed toward where we live, I grabbed my Uzi before following my husband to our the lower level. No, I didn't try to photograph the actual tornado funnel that wiped out a development just blocks from us. At that point, I took cover.

However, I did capture this very ominous - yet beautiful - stormy sky from Tornado Sunday.

On further reflection, I think that, but for the light at the end of the tunnel, this looks like the entrance to hell itself.

Sunday's tornado was an F-4. The winds were 260 MPH.
No wonder so much damage occurred. Various parts of the Greater Metro now look like a war zone. It's hard to believe - even when you see it with your own eyes.

This is a gorgeous image! I'm glad you were safe (and had the presence of mind to take a photo or two.!)

I look at storms all the time. Have all my life. But this one is worse than any I've seen. I say that only because I didn't see the F5 tornado that hit my house in 1991. What a great capture here.

It is amazing how something so beautiful can be so deadly at the same time. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful shot, Liz. But really scary! I'm relieved to know you hid in the basement for the main event; those guys who take pictures of funnel-clouds are real thrill-seekers. The very thought of it makes me dive for cover!
