Gary R.

I'm not sure why this fly sat there while I took photos, I thought he'd fly away as soon as I got near. He seemed unconcerned and even turned around to different angles, first a head-on, then a right and left profile. Maybe he saw himself in the lens (?)

I used a 50mm lens from my Pentax 35mm SLR, reversed and held up to the camera lens. Macro mode, auto focus, mid zoom range, handheld.

I can't believe the detail in this shot, considering this could quickly be a moving object. GREAT SHOT

Gary, this is about the most incredible macro I've ever seen! I've spent a lot of time just looking at the details with rabid fascination. Bravo!

Incredible! So sharp, exposes thing I've never seen with my eye on a fly - those eyes do look like mesh on a velvet head. Those hairs remind me of Jeff Goldblum's the fly. A Wow photo.

Impressive shot! And thanks for sharing the technical info on how you achieved it. There is now new hope for my retired Nikon 35mm and it's lenses. I can't wait to give your technique a try.

This is impressive, unless it's a 4 foot fly!

This is an incredibly small DOF. At this size, it almost looks man made with a stiched silver head piece and orange mesh for the eyes, etc.
