View of Lake Reschen

Lake Reschen was impounded in the early 20th century to produce electricity. Before that time the valley floor was covered with fertile soil, two small natural ponds and two villages. The farmers cultivated grain and breeded brown cattle at 1500 m above sea level...
As soon as the dam was built the inhabitants were forced to leave their houses and lost their possessions without getting fair compensation. Most of the families moved away. The other 30 built new houses at the higher banks of the lake. The old buildings were blown up and removed. Only the church tower was left in place. They took everything out and left it in the water...

An old picture for you, but a new picture for me. And a very good one, too! I would also try to see it in reality when the corona-period is over. V.

What a sad story associated with this area. I am shocked that residents weren't compensated for their properties !! A neat shot tho' ! V

a startling scene well captured...there must be a good story behind the tower isolated in the lake..
