This is the most famous and most coloured motive of the Hungarian rural culture. They call it Matyó embroidery.
This is just one from the diverse motives, which is typical of our country's different landscapes. Every region had the itself colour and motive. It was the habit in former times so that the maidens themselves prepared their trousseau before their wedding. Not only tablecloths, but national costume (festive costume) and a lot something else was prepared with embroidery like this. It was the part of the everyday life in the farmer families. Until the '70s in most of Hungarian homes found would be similar to this pieces. Our grandmothers decorated their homes so yet. My grandma taught this to me.
I would be able to embroider one like this yet, but this habit disappears slowly together with the world's acceleration, in these days. Pieces like this are being made for the tourists only mostly already today. There are places yet, where embalm (for example in museums) the memory of this tradition.
I like the simpler motives better, than for example the totally white one, or the blue-white one on the margin of the picture. :)
