Bug out Front

Chicago, Illinois

This was taken in September 2003. I have no idea what kind of bug it is.

I can remember when they arrive everyone goes wild. There are eating contest. The bike trails in the forest are covered with them. The even show up in the city. It looks like 2007 is the next big show in Chicago.

Here is a website I found about the 17 year Cicada.

Laughing at some of the responses...when I was a child I would play with these, tie a string around leg and fly them!

Weird coloring! We get them every single summer round here so we're quite used to them, but ours are brownish! They are basically harmless (then again we don't get thousands... just a few hundred) but make a really annoying sound ALL THROUGH THE DAY. You sure that's what they call them?

cicada? I thought they only come every 17 years and by the thousands.

Lara, When the cicada's come every 17(?) years that is "One that just gave me the shivers. Brrrr. "
