Near the town of Carlow, in the middle of a cow pasture,
stands the Browneshill Dolmen, reputed to have the
largest captstone of any megalithic tomb in Europe.
Imagine the improbility of balancing a capstone, estimated to weigh
one hundred tons, on those slender supports.
Dolmens are the ancient Celtic burial sites for important people.
Remains from a 400-500 year period have been found under these
megalithic structures. The area under this dolmen hasn't been excavated, so no one knows what's beneath it yet.
