1954 Contax IIIa

Bought from new, handed down, my late Father's Carl Zeiss Contax IIIa 35mm Rangefinder, 5cm f/1.5 Sonnar and 13.5cm f/4 Sonnar lenses, with accessories.

In the 1930-50s whereas most photojournalists used their provided Leica, the superior Zeiss Ikon Contax was the premier choice for the discerning 35mm photographer. Not surprising therefore, that the first Nikon camera was based in large part on a Zeiss Ikon Contax even down to styling (not to mention the Ikon in Nikon!). And so we come full circle perhaps, with today's truly discerning photographer preferring Nikon over Canon.
