Many years ago when I was out of college, I backpacked through Europe with some friends. As many backpackers do, we finally found ourselves in the Cinque Terre region of Italy (along the Ligurian Coast). We ended up sleeping on a beach in Monterosso al Mare and awakening to an amazing sunrise of pastel pinks and reds.

Years later, I would take my wife to this area and would fall in love all over again (with her and the region). This image comes from a sunrise in March of Vernazza, the town made famous by Rick Steves' travels. If you climb the path heading south, you'll have wonderful views of Vernazza and the coast. Get up early and you'll have the path all to yourself.

I hope to get back one of these days.
