Laurel sumac is adapted to resprout from an underground burl

Almost all chaparral plants have an underground burl.
"Burls, enlarged areas at the stem's base, contain water and stored energy
to produce new shoots and help maintain the plant during the early phases of recovery."
These plants are able to resprout within just a few weeks after a fire!
