Great Site!! I knew there was a university there at one time and that a building was still standing, but never knew which one it was. Now I know...thanks!!

I grew up in the house right there on the left of the picture (green in color now) at 718 Jefferson. The building WAS a hospital used during the Civil War. Yes, there was also a clinic in part of the building for years. Also, during the 1950's part of it became apartments. At one time, they used to print the television guide, also, from this building. During the 1960's, two parts of it were turned into little churches, and there was a huge apartment there, also. As for haunted, no, the house that used to stand at 720 Jefferson was haunted, but that was torn down sometime after my last stay in that house in 1978.
It has been a joy to see my old neighborhood! Thank you sooooo much for taking the time to post such lovely history to our past!

I grew up in the neighborhood and was told this building was used as a hospital during the Civil War. There were rows of tents for the Union soldiers along W 6th, W5th etc. A friend told of her father digging a basement for a house across from it on W.7th found the hillside full of bones in the late 30's.

I've heard theories that this building may be haunted as well as a house directly across from it on the 7th St. side. I want to know if anyone else has heard of this or has any info that might aid in proving these theories true or untrue. Please respond. This info is seriously important to me.

Great pictures of Cleveland University. I've often driven by there but never knew what the buildings were. Can you expand on a few historical notes on the University?
