Large old Black Olive tree being cut down at 72 - - Miami Lakeway South, Town of Miami Lakes, FL

Town of Miami Lakes, FL

Thanks to the weakening of the Miami-Dade Tree Protection Ordinance by the Board of County Commissioners, removal of Black Olive trees are no longer illegal because the Black Olives are non-native and non-protected. It is still illegal to hatrack them. However, all properties in Miami Lakes are subject to deed restrictions that used to be enforced by the Architectural Control Committee and there is a prohibition on changing the landscape without prior approval of the committee. Removal of trees is changing the landscape and the committee can require that the tree be replaced with a replacement tree that is a certain height (semi-mature) which can be very expensive.
