This is what the modified connector looks like. Ugly but fits the D7 tightly and works. Had to grind off one of the four sockets and a little off both on top and bottom. Also had to grind a groove so the key from the D7 socket will fit into the top of this connector. I moved the order of the wires because one of the wires (the original ground wire) is much stiffer and I thought it would be better to have it located in the middle instead of on one edge of the plug. There are little spring clips molded into the plug that holds the pin sockets in place.
