Homemade Remote Control

Remote Control for the D7 using modified CDROM Audio Cable connector, two mini SPST monentary pushbutton switches form Radio Shack and a small bottle I found in the recycle bin. Use the white connector shown on the left. Had to grind down a pin socket on one side, both top and bottom and also grind a groove to fit the key in the D7 camera connection. I use the top button with my thumb to focus and the trigger finger to release the shutter.

It's fairly easy to simulate a single button cable release, although I do not have a definitive example yet, check this out:http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/message?forumid=151930&messageid=1028061176
you may get a more elegant idea on how to accomplish a single button feel release.

Has anyone been able to find a switch that is suitable as a single item, I have made this remote using a toggle/pushbutton combo but I'm not satified I would like a simple elegant camera stle 2 in one switch

Do you know the part number of the original connector? I'm pretty sure it's a molex conenctor, but Im'm not sure. Thanks.

No battery needed as all is required is to short the remote control pins to close the circuit.

I was very surprised to find the pinout of the remote control.
But - did this ever work with your Dimage 7 ?
With my camera I found the following pinout working well:
- Left & Center = Focus
- Left & Right = Release
